Dance Spying Seriously

I must be a decent dancer and teacher, considering another teacher in town sends spies to my class.  This occurs once a semester.  Personally, I do not have time, energy, or NEED to do the same.  I can't keep up with my own ideas.

IF you are a truly gifted artist, you would have no need to do this.  Anyway, no one can see the big picture by attending my class once, several times, or ever.  I can determine the students being sent mainly because of how they behave in class.  They are VERY informal, and have Single White Female tendencies.  By informal I mean they constantly ask questions throughout class, they become frustrated easily, and they walk out to the bath room with out warning to me or their class mates.  Please teach your students how to behave in an artistic, real dance setting.  These are formal & organized classes.

I am excited to get back to the academic girls that normally attend next week :-)!

RESISTANCE IS DEADLY!

Don't let resistance keep you from practicing your art, and much more important honing in on your craft.  Practicing with friends and hanging out, all sorts of things can in the end be a block to truly getting the work done in bettering yourself.
Please read The War of Art by Steven Pressfield, and also The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron.  DO THE WORK.  DON'T GIVE IN TO RESISTANCE.  GET IT DONE!  When you feel those deadly urges to resist practicing and working on craft, DON'T!
THIS CHAPTER FROM ARTIST'S WAY HELPED ME TREMENDOUSLY.
Artist’s Way, Chapter 11, The Zen of Sports:  “Creativity requires action, and part of that action must be physical.”  “Exercise teaches the rewards of process.  It teaches the sense of satisfaction over small tasks well done…we learn to move through the difficulty.” (Pg.  185 & 187)

Randy Rhoads

RIP Randy Rhoads & Happy Birthday! My significant other showed me a photo of Randy.  This was of him while traveling with Ozzy.  He was looking through the yellow pages for some one to study with, despite that he was already amazing.  Never Stop Learning or You Will Stop Growing!  Don't get too big for your britches!  And Give Credit For Crying Out Loud!  Trust me I am watching karma work it's magic for the reverse.

Not completed related, but it is my ramblings page.  I gave dancers opportunities to perform that they never acknowledged me for, neither then or now.  Not as they do now, where they thank their performance mates publicly and abundantly.  I am getting closer and closer to getting through my hurt from that.  On the flip side, I have come to realize, without having the troupe, I have been able to grow so much, whereas before I would have been held back.

Things really do play out as they should.  Thank Heaven!

A Quote From Martha!

Martha Graham to Agnes de Mille:
There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuabl...e nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep yourself open and aware to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. ... No artist is pleased. [There is] no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others.

Our Coach Caroline at NAS read this to our acting class last night. Don't block your art! AKA Don't not practice, take classes, create, whatever it takes.

The Busy Bee...ZZZZZ!

Excited!  Be Excited Too!  Look for HAWT but simple updates on my site here ;-).  I hope I can put them into motion!  Theatering, Dancing, Vandying...Slammed Lately!  I pray for a few days to catch my breath and CREATE!

I really appreciate the "likes" and love I feel from our Strong Middle Eastern Community in Nashville.  That's who I love / want to appreciate My Dance Work!  Humbled & Appreciative I am...to have learned so much from them!  Their evaluation of me is not tainted with jealousy and arrogance.

Ramblings

Like here's a thought, and it's just a suggestion:  If you are a part of the belly dance community in some way - dancer, musician, dj, planner - like when you go to another performer's show can you not turn your head like OMG! it should be you and not that other person on stage.  One of my theater friends has a great way of putting this :  On this show it's not your turn on stage.  But support this other show, and that way they'll support your show, and we avoid looking like 10th graders. Just an idea.
